Committed to continuing the work!

Dawn M. Peters was elected to the Pinellas County School Board in November 2022 and currently serves as Vice Chairperson. A lifelong Florida native, successful businesswoman, and devoted mother of two. Dawn answered the call to public service through her deep involvement in her daughters’ education and firm belief in the constitutional promise of equal opportunity for all.

Before joining the School Board, Dawn built a career in property management while actively serving our veterans and the Pinellas County school community. She has served as a certified substitute preschool teacher, and elementary and middle school mentor, a PTA officer, and the volunteer and mentor coordinator at Thurgood Marshall Fundamental Middle School. Through these roles—and through her children’s experiences in neighborhood, fundamental, and magnet schools—Dawn developed a broad, firsthand understanding of public education and its critical role in preparing students to become informed citizens and productive members of the workforce. Both of her daughters completed higher education through dual enrollment and Bright Futures scholarship and now work locally serving our community.

Dawn believes public education is fundamental to our constitutional republic. Our schools do more than teach academics—they help instill civic responsibility, critical thinking, and respect for the freedoms and responsibilities outlined in our Constitution. Our young people are the future of our nation, and the education they receive today will shape America’s workforce, leadership, and strength tomorrow.

She is committed to transparency, accountability, and responsible governance, ensuring families have a voice and that tax dollars are used wisely. Dawn supports educational pathways that prepare students for success after graduation—whether through college readiness, career and technical education, skilled trades, military service, or direct entry into the workforce.

Since taking office, Dawn has worked diligently to build trust, form strong partnerships, and understand how the system operates so she can advocate effectively for students, families, educators, and staff. She remains actively engaged through professional development, service on committees and boards, regular school visits, and participation in community events throughout Pinellas County.

A strong advocate for public education, Dawn believes meaningful progress comes through collaboration and communication. She works with local, state, and federal leaders, the Florida School Boards Association, PTAs, and community stakeholders to strengthen schools, support educators, and keep students at the center of every decision.

Dawn Peters is proud to serve Pinellas County and is committed to another four years of service—protecting public education, preparing students for the workforce, and upholding the constitutional values that make our nation strong.
